The man responsible for her community service is the devastatingly handsome sheriff, Daniel McCray. From the moment they meet, something sparkles in each of them.
Unfortunately, Daniel's roots are firmly entrenched in rural McCray County and the last thing he needs is to feel an overwhelming attraction for a city girl who's just passing through. But for some reason, every time they meet the attraction grows.
Much to Megan's surprise, she revels in the joys of small town society, but she can't forget her vow to become an inner city teacher. She wants to teach the underprivileged. However, the more she learns about McCray County and Daniel, the more she believes her future lies there.
Can the rural sheriff and the city socialite learn to accept love even when their dreams keep pushing them apart?

From the Author
When I started writing A Summer Sentence, I had no idea it would become the first book in the Barbourville series. As it turned out, some of the characters in A Summer Sentence (including triplet brothers) called for their own books, so three more followed: Falling for Dallas, Dealing with Denver, and Dreaming of Dayton. After I told their stories, I didn't want to leave the small Tennessee town for good, so I set the next book (The Forgotten Christmas Tree) in Sonny's Diner in downtown Barbourville. Next, a minor character in The Forgotten Christmas Tree captured my interest, and he reappears as the hero in At Home in Barbourville. Then two secondary characters in At Home in Barbourville demanded and got their own story in The Bow Wow and Meow Campaign. And most recently, I wrote a prequel titled Celebrations of Joy. I expect more books will follow because I thoroughly enjoy writing this series. I hope readers enjoy the series as much.

Contemporary Romance
By J. Kaye Oldner
After a blowup with her father, Megan Marsh heads to Chicago to follow her dream. On the way, she passes through McCray County, Tennessee where a misunderstanding leads to performing community service in this quaint town.
Sheriff Daniel McCray can't see living anywhere else. He has hopes of finding a hometown girl and starting a family. He's not ready for the attraction towards Megan. For that matter, neither can she. They come from two different worlds and their goals don't match. A relationship between the two wouldn't work out. Or would it?
The story begins as funny and stays fairly engaging throughout, but parts of the story are hokey, not to mention awkward dialogue in places and a predictable plot. The characters are stereotypical such as the high-strung deputy that resembles Mayberry's Barney Fife, but I enjoyed Megan and Daniel as well as Megan's uncles, Dallas, Dayton, and Denver. Oh, and let's not forget Daniel's Uncle Bob. He was the mastermind behind Megan's community service.
All-in-all, this was a cute story with engaging characters, but it's more likely to fit the 1970 era. People, especially poverty-stricken children simply do not act like that anymore--no matter how rural the town.

A Sweet Romance
By Regina Pounds
Small town life described with authentic flavor, likeable characters, and a good deal of fine humor make this chaste love story suitable for readers of all ages. Easy to read and relatively short, this hardcover book would make a great gift for anyone, but perhaps especially for a young reader who is ready to discover the romance genre.

a very sweet story!
By Janice Hunt
I enjoyed this entertaining & romantic story, especially one w/o all the graphic love scenes. This was written so that even my teen-age granddaughter could read it and not be embarrassed. Great Job Ms. Carey, I'll look forward to other books written by you.
