I loved these three books great characters to love and hate Lucy is so interesting and Nick is a dream of a husband Jenna is very hard to like but a very interesting character and Morgan wow such a dangerous child woman but you can't help hoping she'll come through I am now going to read number four book and I know I will enjoy that too

I got this added to my Kindle the day before Christmas and we had an ice and snow storm Christmas and were without power for three days. It was a great three days because it gave me time to read this whole series. Once I started I could not put it down.

The boxed set is a great buy especially if you like FBI thrillers. The story line is believable as is the characters. The books fast paced story line will keep you reading right to the end. I'm not finished with the last book yet and I can't wait to see if there will be more books to come.

Great story- Greedy marketing

I don't like the way this book has been marketed. I am committed but will never let myself be caught up again as currently published. I am disappointed in Mr. Beck, I expected better. Yes this is a good story about good verses evil. Hopefully we never experience the drama unfolding within the plot.

Great read, as you read you start asking yourself a lot of questions. This is so possible and so frightening. The biggest questions may be which side are you on and are you ready? As I said in the review of the first five books, I have the series in hard cover. They were three times the price of the e-books and I considered them worth every penny and have not hesitated to buy them a second time for my Kindle library. Chris Stewart is a great author and this is a story I would have paid a lot more to read and thought the money Life, like a dome of many-coloured glass, Stains the white radiance of eternity. spent. It is not your average piece of fiction.

This book is part six of the series. I was hooked from the very beginning. I finish them in 1 or 2 days and can't wait for the next book to come out. I just wish they came out in a shorter time frame. Looking forward to Jan. 15th for the next book.

You Won't Be Able To Put This One Down!!

This was much better than its predecessor, The Incubus. The author has definitely improved in all areas. However, in one sense, I would have liked more character development of the main character's girlfriend but looking back, it may seem strange to say this, but the girlfriend really was a minor character and maybe did not need much character development as the plot was mainly concerned with the attempt of The Succubus to manipulate and destroy everything in Jared's life to achieve her demonic aims. But if the author wanted to develop the plot further, the the girlfriend and her relaitionship with Jared would be beneficial here and more of the effects of The Succubus on this relaitionship.

The author has also increased the spiritual activity of the christian characters, namely Jared's parents compared to this not evident in The Incubus. This definitely adds more credibility to the plot and the reality of spiritual warfare.

One of the highlights for me was the spiritual battle towards the end of the novel and the meeting of Jared and Jesus. Very tenderly done and very respectful of the character of Jesus and His attributes. That will stick with me when I remember this novel. The ending was also very moving and a great testimony to God turning anything around for His glory despite our failings and shortcomings.

Outstanding Sequel to an Excellent Book!

This was a phenomenal story. I could not put it down. I read The Incubus, and that had me glued to my Kindle, and I was sure that the sequel, The Succubus, could exceed it. Wow! Was I wrong! I devoured the sequel in even shorter time. Len Du Randt is a very talented writer. No one can describe the picture like he can. I am now in the process of ordering his other book, and I look forward to any other works that he will publish.

Good movie material

This book is very interesting. It is hard to put down. This would be good material to cast as a movie providing nothing is added or taken away from its content. The author was very good at unfolding the events that lead to a powerful ending. I wanted to slow down on my reading so I could read this book longer. The ending brought tears to my eyes. Glory be to God.

Henry Louis Mencken was born in Baltimore, September 12, 1880. His family moved to a house in the historic Union Square area of southwest Baltimore, Maryland, in 1883 where he lived until his death on January 26, 1956. The house, located at is now classified as a National Historic Landmark and is on the U. S. national Register of Historic Places. The house is not currently open to the public. He said of his house: “I have lived in one house in Baltimore for nearly 45 years. It has changed in that time, as I have—but somehow it still remains the same.... It is as much a part of me as my two hands. If I had to leave it I’d be as certainly crippled as if I lost a leg.” Mencken was often called the “Baron of Baltimore.”

It is surprising that anyone with such a chauvinistic view of his childhood house could have such a cosmopolitan view in other matters. Perhaps it is in the nature of his hometown city. The Union Square area of Baltimore is part of a larger area that is highly appealing to artists, having large buildings with good access to light, as well as low rents. Parts of the surrounding area have been home to an interesting eclectic community, although other nearby areas are plagued by vacant buildings.

After graduating from high school, he worked for three years in his father’s cigar factory, after which he went to work for the now-defunct Baltimore Morning Herald. After six years, he moved to the The Baltimore Sun where he began writing the editorials and opinion pieces that he became famous for. In 1924, he and George Jean Nathan created and published an influential magazine, The American Mercury, with Mencken serving as editor until 1933.

Mencken was an admirer of Nietzsche’s ideas. It appears that some of Mencken’s ideas about Jews and blacks (not his term, unfortunately) became more enlightened because of the influence of Nietzsche’s writings. The two men had relatively similar, but highly controversial, especially for the time, views of religion.

The Central branch of the Enoch Pratt Free Library in Baltimore contains Mencken’s papers and many of his books. They are stored, fittingly, in the library’s Mencken Room.

Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche was October 15, 1844 in the small town of Röcken, in what is now Germany, but was then considered part of the Prussian Province of Saxony. (He did not use the middle name Wilhelm in his most important writings.) He died on August 25, 1900. He was, as was Mencken, an important contributor to many disciplines. He was especially well known for his writings as a philosopher, poet, and cultural critic.

He was a Professor of Philosophy at the University of Basel for ten years, providing him with an ideal occupation in which to pursue his writing. Where Mencken was heavily influenced by reading Twain’s Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, Nietzsche may have had his views on religion influenced by the book Life of Jesus by David Strauss while a young man.
While Nietzsche was most renowned as a philosopher, and his ideas continue to be influential, in the popular culture that dominates the current era he is, perhaps, most famous for some 1960s era graffiti for both a quotation and a (purported) response.

Legend has it that more than a thousand years ago, an Indian Buddhist monk named Bodhidharma arrived in China. His approach to teaching was unlike that of any of the Buddhist practitioners who had come to China before him. Bodhidharma confounded and infuriated the emperor with cryptic dialogues before traveling the country and eventually settling into a cave behind Mount Song, where he meditated for nine years, waiting to transmit his teachings to the right person. He would later be credited as the founder of Chan Buddhism.

Bodhidharma had such an impact on Chinese Buddhism because of the directness of his teaching. We are intrinsically free from vexations and afflictions, he taught, and our true nature is already perfect and undefiled.

Two Entries and Four Practices is one of the few texts that Bodhidharma composed. This short scripture contains the marrow, or essence, of all his teachings. Chan teacher Guo Gu offers a translation of this significant text, as well as an elaboration on the teachings on life and practice that it presents, which reflect the essence of Chan itself.

A useful book on Chan/Zen for newcomers and experienced practitioners.

I should begin by stating that the author and I are both long-time fellow disciples of the late Chan Master Sheng Yen. So any favorable bias in this review should be understood in that context. Having said that, "The Essence of Chan" succeeds in accomplishing what not many books like this do, which is to be original, interesting, useful and revelatory for both newcomers as well as for experienced practitioners of contemplative Buddhism.

Choosing as his root text the legendary monk Bodhidharma's extremely concise treatise - "The Two Entries and Four Practices" - Guo Gu (who is also a professor at Florida State U.) manages to neatly and broadly depict the landscape of the Chan/Zen path, all the way from grasping the doctrinal aspects, to the process of liberation from the tryanny of concepts and attachments. But he goes beyond that to emphasizing that practice is not just a matter of seeking enlightenment, but of living in a manner which expresses our intimate connection with and relatedness to all other beings.

Guo Gu does this without relying too much on doctrinal jargon and abstruse references, while writing in a contemporary and casual voice. Though clearly speaking from the aspect of Chan/Zen, he stays clear of promoting it as a preferred path. Rather, he is saying that if one chooses to practice Chan/Zen, then Bodhidharma's treatise is a broad road map for that practice.

While the present text is available only in ebook format (Kindle and Nook), let's hope that the publisher (Shambhala) will see fit to release a printed version so that this small but excellent book can find its way to libraries and practice centers wherever there is interest in Buddhism.

An Actual Incident that Happened While Reading Guogu's Book

Here is something that happened in late January. It shows that Guogu's book and Chan are not just intellectual exercises or philosophical pastimes.

This happened while I was reading Guogu's book in the subway on the way to my office.
I was in the middle of the car and all the way at the end to my right there was a mother sitting with her daughter, who looked to be about 8 or 9. She was a little boyish looking and she was sitting on the last seat in the car, against the wall. She had some sort of a charm or little bell on a chain. She was furiously twirling it around her hand and her arm - back and forth, back and forth, and it made an incessant ringing sound. These kind of persistent sounds produced by people who seem to be unaware that anyone else is in their vicinity can drive me crazy. People humming on the elevator, tapping their fingers, singing to themselves. Very vexing. Nonetheless, I tried to ignore it - but I didn't try very hard. I glared at the girl. She didn't really see me at first, but I'm pretty sure that she became aware of my stare and then purposely ignored me. I think the knowledge that I was looking at her made her twirl the chain faster and harder.

I'm not sure why these things get to me the way they do, but I wanted to go over and hit her or throw her off the train. I thought: doesn't the mother notice how annoying her daughter is? The mother was right next to her, oblivious. Then I thought don't they realize how annoying it is to EVERYBODY ELSE in the car? This went on for a quite few minutes. I kept dealing with the anger and with the feeling that I shouldn't be angry. I was reading Guogu's book on Bodhidharma. There was a passage about recognizing and accepting karmic obstructions and then suddenly the idea popped into my head that this would be a good opportunity to practice.

This was truly amazing - the problem, the vexations, the obsession and the dislike of the obsession vanished instantly. The girl continued to furiously twirl her chain. I certainly heard it, but it no longer made any kind of an impression on me.

As a matter of fact, I then looked at all of the narrative drama running around in my head- the idea that she was doing this specifically to annoy me, in flagrant violation of human decency and then I watched the narrative escalation that turned these first thoughts into the shrill condemnation of her mother and further morphed into the outrage that they were ignoring everybody else on the subway so that I could feel that my annoyance was inflated by the unanimity of everybody riding on the train (who of course felt exactly as I felt - in this crazy scenario). Once these thoughts became an object of practice, they could be very calmly viewed as simply a chain of illusory thoughts producing more illusions.

So in one sense I didn't have to abandon my anger and annoyance. It wasn't there in the first place unless I put it there. It is amazing how unwittingly I have been able to manipulate myself and believe that it was someone else doing it.

I continued to read quite peacefully and the rest of the ride was without incident.

Topical, suspenseful and hot

Wow! Just wow! In this third book of Tiffany Snow's gripping Kathleen Turner series we see Kathleen in her new role at the law firm. The adventure that she and Kade undertake in Denver is gripping and quite funny at times. I love that we get to see Kade as both protector and flirt. The tension between these two are amazing while the case that Blane is working on threatens their relationship. This triangle is done very well when no cheating just a TON of sexual tension. The introduction of Chance shows Kathleen's loyalty and drives the guys nuts. The scenes leading up to the climax are chilling and the issues that Tiffany faces head on in this book are amazing. I couldn't put this book down. I recommend this series to everyone.
