I liked it especially for a novella.

So let me start by saying that I did not care for Taken like many of you did. I think I had to get used to the second person dialogue which I had a hard time doing. Then some of the things that occurred in Taken, I was not sure how I felt about Merrick after they happened. I do not want to say what they were in case you had not read Taken. However, a friend who I usually agree with in books, 95% of the time, loved Taken while I did not. I could not understand and get passed why she liked the series so much, while I had strong feelings against it. So I thought why not give the series another try and I am so glad I did.
Merrick and Rachel's relationship was solidified in this book. I connected to them as a couple in No Take Backs, while I felt no connection with them in Taken and I think that was one of the problems.
Their relationship in this book is intense, hot, and steamy. There is a voyeuristic scene in the book that I think would be a great topic for discussion.
The cliffhanger was really good and I am big on the cliffys so now I cannot wait to read Taken by Storm. So glad I gave the series another try.
Did I skim? No.
Did I feel connected to the characters? Yes.
Do I look forward to the sequel? Yes!!
Pace of the story: Very good. Fast and emotional and let's not forget steamy.
Positives: Even thought this was an "intro" to book #2, it did not feel like filler. Hate that!
Negatives: I am getting tired of the skanky best friend characters.
Do I recommend? Yes.

Now this is where things start to get really interesting. Rachael is now in Turtle Tear Island overseeing the hotel renovations... and Merrick Rocha's heart. In TAKEN, Merrick shared pieces of his past, his tumultuous relationship with his father, the burdens of being a billionaire and one defining moment in his past that made all the difference in his life. When Merrick was 12, yes fricking TWELVE YEARS OLD, his hormones was out of control. He ended losing his virginity to his then 15yo babysitter and it resulted to an unwanted pregnancy. Of course the repercussions of this is too big regardless if Merrick is rich or not, a boy father is just unacceptable so his father handled the situation and Merrick continued his merry way until he eventually took over over the family business.
Decades later that situation was indeed handled but in a different way...My jaw dropped with this revelation! I mean how can Kelli Maine write make this into a novella?! IMHO TAKEN should be the novella and NO TAKEBACKS book 1! Kelli Maine, you are so mean, not only leaving us hanging like laundry! Good thing I won't be waiting long for Taken By Storm (Februaru 28, 2013). But I love how your mind works, cruel as it may be. I am itching to see how Merrick is going to take this very big news and the effects of this secret. One thing I'm sure of, his father won't be very pleased with himself once this all goes down.

Still loving this couple

Short but good, I loved reading about the resort being finished, Merrick's sister and kids coming to visit and meet Rachael, and of course the love and hot sex that Rachael and Merrick have. I do not like Heidi's husband, he gave me the creeps. I think it is pitiful that Joan still is hung up on Merrick and gives Rachael the evil eye all of the time. I think it is fantastic what he did to their little tree house. It was nice reading about her watching Merrick in the pool with his niece and nephew and the thoughts that could bring out. I did not like the part where Rachael looks for her best friend and then just stands there and watches her, it was creepy. I hated how upset Merrick got but it was stupid to say yes to Heidi without even checking with him first out of respect. I didn't like the statement he made about not being there when she came back. I figured out what the father wanted but I didn't quite understand at first why he did it in this way, he is as nasty and sneaky has Merrick said. I am looking forward to the next book I just hope there is some Rachael and Merrick in it and not all about the other people.
