Just a Little Love Story

Julie Little's life was turned upside down when her parents were both murdered by a paroled drug lord that her father had arrested 17 years ago. At the onset of the story, Julie is living with her uncle Charlie and cousin Matt. Matt and Julie are given a job shadowing assignment for school, and when Charlie can't convince Matt to shadow at the police station (Charlie is the Chief of Police), he turns to Julie. Not knowing what else to do, Julie agrees. And thus, Julie meets Officer Luke "Trigger" Reibeck.
The story of Julie and Luke falling in love is a whirlwind. It's a forbidden love that becomes even more complicated when Julie gets new neighbors-siblings Hannah and Derek. The complications continue when you find out exactly who Luke's parents and brother are.
Nothing for Julie and Luke is simple. There are complications and distractions around every corner. Through it all, you'll find yourself wondering if there's any way that they will make it or if Julie will give up on Luke and go for Derek. This is a story of forbidden love and the measures that people will take just to make it work.
I fell in love with Tracie Puckett's work after just her first novella-"The New Girl" from the Webster Grove series. This series is written very similarly to that one, though it seems that the author has grown a bit more comfortable in her writing and that is evident in this series. If you've read and enjoyed the Webster Grove Series, you will most definitely enjoy Just A Little Series. If you haven't read the Webster Grove Series, I would highly recommend that you do!

What can I say, I love Julie Little. This series was great, it was fast paced and not once did I feel like stopping and reading something else. I won't spoil it for you with details of the book, but I will leave you with the notion that you are truly going to enjoy this series!

Just a Little Series (Short stories 1-4)
When seventeen year old Julie is assigned a class project to shadow someone in her dream field of work for a graduation project, she is outraged. At seventeen, how are you supposed to know what to do with your life?
Living with her uncle and her cousin, Matt, at the beginning of the first short story, Julie has cut herself off from the world in recent years due to a family tragedy. When her uncle offers to let her shadow him at the local police station, Julie jumps at the chance to make her uncle happy and to be babied a little bit for a homework grade. But, this plan quickly sours when her uncle takes the project seriously and assigns Julie Officer Luke to shadow. Luke is uptight and takes his job far too seriously, and is outraged himself that he has to babysit while he's on patrol. During their patrols, the two spend most of their time fighting, but the plot takes an (un)expected twist when the two start falling for one and other. The rest of the series after the first short story ("Just a Little Crush") progresses through Julie's final months in high school and her developing relationship with friends and family. A new short story has recently been released ("Just a Little Insecurity"), and continues the Luke-Julie relationship.
I read the first short story, and immediately fell in love with the characters and the plot line. Yes, it's conventional and it's been done a million other times, but that's what makes it adorable! These short stories are addictive (You may as well just buy yourself the Just a Little Series book and save yourself a lot of trouble), relatable, and endearing. They explore the relationship between death and depression, as well as several themes of redemption. The only thing I did not like was the age difference between the love interests (Julie is only seventeen, Luke is twenty-three). If the author wants the characters to end up together, at least make your heroine of age!
I highly recommend this book for young adult readers, lovers of short stories, and lovers of crush stories.
