I highly recommend Lisa Wingate's new and exciting book, Firefly Island.

Time and space and life wait for an answer. A blank page is an ocean of possibilities.
So begins Lisa Wingate's exciting new book, Firefly Island. Daniel, Mallory and Nick leave for an unforgettable journey from the DC area to beautiful Moses Lake, Texas. Daniel leaves his job as a USDA biochemist to work for a mysterious and wealthy Texan named Jack West. Jack has secrets. He has a ranch with thousands of acres where he needs Daniel's expertise to help develop new and better crops under extreme conditions. The young boy, Nick, and Jack's dog Pecos become inseparable friends.
The Frontier Woman and Al keep the reader looking forward to their next venture.

FIREFLY ISLAND..I L-O-V-E THIS BOOK!!!!!!! It starts off witty and wonderful... Mallory, thirty-something world traveler, daughter of a wealthy family, and now working as a legislative assistant for a senior congressman finds herself on the floor of the nation's capitol where the Clean Energy Bill she was carrying is flying in all directions... around the Rotunda. Never did she imagine as she was grasping for the scattered papers that Mr. Wonderful would walk into her life. The stuff of fairytales, fireworks, hearts, music...she heard it all as she looked into the eyes of Daniel Webster Everson. Later, she got two for the price of one when she looked into the face of his three-year-old son, Nick. How blessed to be loved by two wonderful men!!!!
As quick as a snap, she is married, with a U-Haul behind their vehicle and headed to, of all places in the world, Texas. Middle of nowhere, Texas. Upon awakening in her new home she finds that she has gone from riches to rags. The ancient ranch home is filled with life...rodents, insects and scorpions and one large dog. Mallory takes on the daily battle for her men to have a varmint free home, and is overwhelmed with the tasks of nest-building and step-mothering. And, to top it off, her new husband leaves far too early and comes home far too late every day.
A strange place this Moses Lake, where people aren't who they seem to be and where ragged little children are suddenly grabbing her new son, Nick. She watches and learns from people she would never have touched before and finds friends who can be counted on when she runs headlong into a mystery that puts them in danger. What happened to the ranch owner's wife and son who disappeared years ago? Why are they forbidden and locked away from uninhabited Firefly Island where mysterious lights flicker at night?

This is a release from Wingate you won't want to miss!
Merely pages into Firefly Island I discovered my likeness to Miss Wingate's writing style. It has made me wonder why I haven't read anything by her before and how that will have to change. This story is what I would describe as a contemporary romance with a touch of humor and mystery woven in.
Mallory's head is a fun place to be in. She has such a fun personality and outlook on life that made it hard to set the book down. Though she's very practical in a lot of ways she still takes many a leap of faith. While slowly adjusting into her new role as a stay-at-home mom, she does ponder some deep questions about God. It just saddened me that He wasn't as involved in the story as He could have been.
Miss Wingate has done an excellent job with Firefly Island. She accomplished writing a great lead character that we can get to know and relate to. And she also brings Moses Lake to life before our eyes. I really felt that small-town closeness. :-) If you like contemporary romance novels with some mystery, this is for you!
